Article will be uploaded soon, we apologize for the delay.
Please note that although there were 10 events on that day, only 5 of them contributed to the tabulating of scores that will determine the winner, hence the website only shows 5 events for Swimming in total.

3) 4 x 50 m Freestyle Relay (Female)

The writer wishes to apologise for the late reporting of this event due to many unforeseen circumstances.
To be honest, this is the first time I’ve ever been to a swimming competition. To add on, it was my first experience with the Inter-Hall Games as well. However, that being said, it was still nonetheless an exciting competition to begin with.
To start off with the peripherals, even though the swimming event was held on a Sunday afternoon, it was not one typical of a lazy weekend afternoon. The SRC swimming pool was swamped with zealous competitors and supporters for their individual halls. Prior to the events, swimmers from all the halls were warming up in the pool and it was somewhat a heartening sight for me. It was not like any other swimming competition where the competitors were toned and tanned, instead, just skimming across the pool, you could get glimpses of people of different shapes and sizes. It is the perfect epitome of what the IHG is about – giving someone a chance to try. And try, KEVII did.
Though clouds were glooming at a distant, the sheer energy emanating from the sea of reds (KEVIIans!), greens, oranges, yellows blues and whites brightened the day and the heat was on.
Kicking off the first event was Du Hong Fei for the 50m Freestyle. He ended up 5th, despite the valiant efforts to catch up with the rest of the Halls. The next event KEVII took part in was the 3rd event, 4x50m Freestyle Relay. Our swimmers Samuel, Dingwen, Mun Joe and Siddharth Pillai clinched 4th place, losing to 2nd runner-up Sheares Hall by a mere 0.8s. Nevertheless, they did an excellent job.
In the 4 x 50m freestyle relay, we saw an outstanding performance by the girls’ team, which comprised Irene Wong, Sophia, Fang Chee and Pei Yi (Girls’ Captain). They clinched the 3rd place, scoring 4 points for female team.
The 5th event saw Xingyu taking on the pride of KEVII when he clinched second spot for the 50m Breaststroke (Male), leading the 3rd place by 3 seconds. However it was unfortunate that this was not counted for the tallying of our points at the end of the swimming events.
Again, it was a close niche for the girls when they were edged to the 4th place narrowly after trailing behind by 0.6 of a second. The next two events saw better results from the Reds when the males and females claimed 4th and 3rd respectively for their 4x50m Breaststroke relay. The male swimmers consisted of Chongyu (Boys’ Captain), Adithya, Zizheng and Niyou, while the same female freestyle team took on this challenge.
In the 10x50m Novelty relay, KE swim team tried hard, but our skills were not comparable to those of the other halls, who were known to have IVP swimmers. The last event (4x50m medley relay) was even more of a pity when KE swim team got disqualified for this event. As this event contributed to our overall standings, and was the only mixed event taken into consideration, we were put to a disadvantage, leading to the girls being placed 4th and the guys 6th. The 5 events taken into consideration were 4 x 50m Breaststroke/Freestyle and the 4 x 50m medley relay.
Nevertheless, for someone who’s new to this IHG event, and to the swim team, I was thoroughly impressed with the cheers and the motivation provided by the supporters on a Sunday afternoon. Strive on, Reds!
